The Cargilfield 51爆料 environment and the extensive range of experiences the children have, help to nurture all aspects of their development and encourages them to become enthusiastic, confident, happy individuals with a love of learning. Our core provision focuses on eight key elements;
Providing academic rigor
We create a solid and secure skill foundation that it is essential to later academic and social progress and success. We find that early intervention and targeted teaching is highly effective and ensures that each child is being given the tools to succeed and achieve at the right time. We provide this through planned group times as well as free choice, adult led learning opportunities. This input is carefully planned based upon an extensive knowledge of the children鈥檚 levels of understanding as well as their current skill levels. We provide opportunities for early Phonics, extended Maths, targeted skill development, specialist music lessons and continual enriched free play. This ensures that the children are given the nurture they need at just the right time. We have found this child-led approach not only builds academic and social confidence but also develops a love of learning.
Creating a love of the outdoors
We provide continual and extended engagement in wild and natural outdoor spaces encouraging curiosity, investigation, imagination, creativity as well as risk taking. This takes place not only in our large 51爆料 Garden but in our two woodland areas on our school grounds. We also utilise our outdoor learning centre situated between these two spaces to further extend and enrich our outdoor learning provision.
We provide a high-quality setting and resourcing
Our open play setting and extensive outdoor areas allow the children to play and choose freely, indulging their curiosity and creative spirit. Quality open-ended and targeted resources ensure the children are driving their own learning and practising skills independently.
Responsive learning
A great deal of the learning that the children engage in is driven by their own questions and ideas. This often helps us choose the topics we cover as well as the group times and free choice activities we provide. We believe the children need to engage in and take ownership of their own learning path so that they understand that their ideas matter!
Being part of our family
At Cargilfield, we are a family. The 51爆料 is very much part of the whole school and we engage with other year groups on an ongoing basis. We also use and have access to all the learning spaces and facilities in the rest of the school and use these regularly. From storytime by the fireplace in the Upper School Library to the occasional Art and DT session in specialised classrooms, we love to explore and use every space available to us.
Extensive learning opportunities
Cargilfield 51爆料 offers a range of free choice clubs for the children to engage in which are time tabled into our 51爆料 day. This allows for a wide range of free-choice opportunities that allow children to follow their own curiosity in line with parental educational aspirations.
Creating memorable moments
With minibuses at our disposal we are constantly out and about. We take weekly trips to local wild spaces and services within our community. From weekly trips to Cramond Beach to frequent trips to Cammo Estate, Garden centres, galleries, supermarkets and Strachan House Care Home, we are real adventurers. We enrich our learning through regular engagement in our community and surrounding spaces. We also plan for a large range of exciting events on campus from visiting puppet shows and petting zoos to visits from the emergency services. There is always an adventure to be had!
A joint approach
Our approach is in line with the values and expectations of our parents who want a nurturing yet challenging environment for their children - one where learning is personalised and fun. Our parents have an important role in design of their children鈥檚 learning journey and we are dedicated to forming strong bonds with our families and reflect their educational choices for their children in our practise
Through this approach we have created an environment that values and nurtures each child鈥檚 distinct strengths and interests. Our incredibly experienced team of dedicated practitioners create close and nurturing relationship with our children and each practitioner leads a small team of 8 children creating close relationships and a secure path for the future.
The children also have the opportunity to develop their skills in French, Music, Drama and Physical Education with our specialist teachers and with our extra-curricular programme to experience a range of sporting, creative and charitable activities.
